Description

The Maton M-Series features Sapele tops, backs and sides. Sapele is an African tonewood (sometimes known as African Mahogany)which has become popular as a substitute for the now endangered Honduran Mahogany. The two woods are nearly identical tonally and aesthetically. The neck is Fijian Mahogany and the bridge and fingerboard are Indian Rosewood.

These guitars are inspired by  the classic roots music of bygone days and their sound evokes images of old time country singers and bluesmen riding the rods on their way to their next engagement. The M-Series are dressed appropriately too. Simple pinstripe rosette and inner bindings combine with a black outer binding to produce an understated classy finish. No frills but elegant, just like the music that inspired them. A bone nut and saddle provide the finishing touches for a brilliant vintage tone.

Under the hood the M series share the recent developments of Maton’s acoustic range. Scalloped bracing and careful thicknessing have resulted in a guitar with a rich, full tone, very Maton but with plenty of that brightness and compression associated with the best all Mahogany guitars.

Maton Guitars - Derringers Music

Derringers Music are very proud to stock Maton guitars! Maton, based in Melbourne, have made their stamp world wide as a unique brand of acoustic and electric guitars that, while following traditional concepts, really are their own beast.

Maton pioneer using Australian timbers to build their instruments. While the majority of their guitars do use Sitka Spruce and East Indian Rosewood, almost all the guitar necks are made of Queensland Maple, and the backs and sides are often Queensland Maple, Victorian Blackwood or Queensland Walnut. The tops are often found to have Bunya, and Australian pine that matures in only 80 years (much more sustainable than Spruces 300 years) and has an earthy, lively and energetic tone to it.

The new SRS (solid road series) Maton guitars are leading the charge in affordable, all solid, high quality acoustic guitars. The SRS60C comes equipped with Matons AP5 system (one our personal favourite piezo based system) and Queensland maple back and sides. It stands as one of the best mid priced acoustic guitars I’ve ever played and has the prospect of maturing with age and getting better with every year in terms of tone. The SRS70C is there for the people that can spare an extra few hundred dollars for a guitar that really shines. The Blackwood back and sides give the guitar more punch and the AP5 Pro pickup system really makes your live performance shine and sound more natural than ever with the mic blend option.

There are a huge range of Maton Acoustic guitars available at Derringers music. There’s also a great range of their Electric guitars too.

For all things Maton, Derringers music is your place. Give us a call on 08 8371 1884 or SMS 0418-836-504 For deals and advice, or just a friendly chat. Otherwise come in to our store and hear them for yourself! You won’t be disappointed.
