The Seymour Duncan Slash APH-2 Neck Humbucker was engineered to address a specific tonal challenge: making new Gibson Les Paul Signature guitars sound like Slash's original AFD Derrig Les Paul copy. While the legendary guitarist's vintage Alnico 2 Pro humbuckers worked brilliantly in older instruments, they produced noticeably different results in modern builds. This signature model uses a custom magnet wire and winding specification paired with an Alnico 2 bar magnet to deliver that characteristic sustain, crunch, and midrange response from a stock Les Paul platform.
Hand-built in Santa Barbara using traditional 1980s construction methods, this neck position humbucker measures 8.3k DCR and ships with modern appointments including short ear mounting legs and 4-conductor cable. The build features a nickel silver bottom plate, maple spacer, paper tape, and wax potting – identical to what Slash's guitar tech Ace Bergman installs in the artist's own touring guitars. The 4-conductor wiring enables coil splitting, series/parallel configurations, and phase switching capabilities. This reverse zebra finish reverse zebra variant carries the LLT designation, indicating custom shop production with approximately three to four weeks additional lead time beyond standard ordering.
